Japanese Nuclear Crisis Situation Empty Japanese Nuclear Crisis Situation

You guys even aware of how serious it is over there?

To stay up to date on some of the news check these websites

After the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan, there have been fears of radiation leaks from the Fukushima nuclear power plant. The aerial image below, taken on 16 March 2011, clearly shows damage to three of the six reactors and smoke pouring from a fourth.

First, a look at the before and after of the reactor buildings.

Japanese Nuclear Crisis Situation Reactors

And a close up of the damaged reactor, I believe this is either number 2 or 3 reactor.

Japanese Nuclear Crisis Situation 60128993

Alright, now for the reactor situation.

Japanese Nuclear Crisis Situation Reactors976x550_3

The four central reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi power station were the most badly damaged by the tsunami.

Although the reactors all shut down automatically after the quake, problems soon emerged with the cooling systems that keep the fuel rods cool.

A power outage prevented nuclear workers from pumping water through the cooling system. The fuel rods overheated, causing a series of major problems.

Radiation has leaked from the plant, though it is not clear from exactly where. Reactors 2 and 3 are thought to be the most likely candidates however.

Efforts are continuing to cool the reactors to reduce the risk of any further leaks.

Japanese Nuclear Crisis Situation _51705118_reactors624x365

Reactor 1

Explosion on 12 March, ripped off roof.

Reactor 2

Explosion on 15 March, some internal damage, most likely source of radiation spike that day.

Reactor 3

Explosion on 14 March, roof damaged. Fears damage may have led to radiation spike on 16 March - although later reports said it was unclear what caused the leap in levels.

Reactor 4

Under maintenance at time of quake. At least two fires reported since.

Reactors 5 and 6

Under maintenance at time of quake. Fears overheating may lead to explosions.

At the time of the earthquake, reactors 4, 5 and 6 were shut down for planned maintenance.

During this period, fuel rods are withdrawn from the reactor and stored in a pool - looking like a big swimming pool - in the upper level of the reactor building, outside the containment vessel.

The water keeps them cool, and protects workers below from radiation.

The rods may later be placed back in the reactor or taken away for long-term storage and re-processing, depending how long they have already been in service.

An official with the Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), which owns the station, told BBC News that the cause was believed to be a lack of water in the pool. So now the rods placed in the pool for storage at reactor 4 have been exposed.

This caused the rods to overheat, reacting with steam and generating hydrogen - which then ignited, similar to the earlier blasts in reactor buildings 1, 2 and 3 when hydrogen was vented from the reactor vessel.

So now, they're having helicopters dumb water over the number 3 reactor in efforts to cool it, since radiation levels are too high for people to get near it and manually pump water in the reactor.

It's worse than that. Because if all the reactors go down then a cloud of nuclear gas could be released into the atmosphere that could drift towards the United States and other countries and cause nuclear fallout. That means, California, Nevada, Arizona up till Kansas will be fucked.

Yeah what spor said, i have been carefully monitoring the situation, me and my family cant find any potassium iodide tablets.

I hope it doesn't get to the point of not return (complete meltdown).

I think i will be making a thread about this so that we can take a look for each other.

You guys know how paranoid i am.

Here is a couple of sites that have help me monitor the situation, is never bad to be prepare. The government doesn't want to cause panic, I'm not even sure if we can trust the government now, they seem to be hiding something.

Mv, you and I seem to be on the same page with this. Seriously considering leaving the state for awhile if the situation escalates to avoid a radiation cloud.

Also, made the topic since it was easier to just split this from the Anime topic. And updated the original post with the current situation on the reactors. MV or anyone else, feel free to mention anything I missed with the current situation and feel free to post any paranoia and nuclear crisis updates here.

Japanese Nuclear Crisis Situation Empty Re: Japanese Nuclear Crisis Situation

Post by MvRaM Thu Mar 17, 2011 10:33 am

Last thing i heard from a trusted source.

"New solid information is hard to come by. Helicopters have flown over while dumping water, but having seen the video footage, this action does not appear to be effective while considering the big picture.

The UN made a forecast that shows the possible movement of the radioactive plume coming from Japan as it is churning across the Pacific, while they also emphasize that radiation in the plume will be diluted as it travels.

Attempts are being made to bring in a line of electricity to the plant. There are questions as to the effectiveness given the present damage and apparent radiation levels at the facility.

Ongoing conflicting information between the Japanese government, TEPCO, and the U.S. government. "

I don't trust any news from the states, as they seem to be linked to the government in some way. So the government tells them what to release to the public.

I heard Alex Jones can be trusted, but to me he seem to be more paranoid than i am. If you want to take a look visit the main page at Inforwars.com.

I know someone in japan telling me no to trust the western news, they seem to make the disaster seem worthier than it actually is.

Take a look at Nhk world, they are founded by the people, so they are in no way linked to the Japanese government, Google it and read the wiki.

here a link to the live feed.

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nhk-world-tv

Btw keep me updated for anything you find out, I'm a paranoid freak, but this seems not to be of a laughing matter.

This could affect millions of people, and i don't want to risk me or my family.

If something bad does happen, I will be heading down to Central America.

like i said keep me informed.

Africa would be the safest spot, but you know, it's Africa.

Yeah I neglected to mention the power MAY be turned back on today at the plants. This would bring some emergency systems back into operational conditions and give them more of a chance at dealing with this.

And for the helicopters dumping water, they only dumped about 7.5 tons. As you can see from videos it's a little ineffective due to many conditions. The major being the active levels of radiation makes them unable to get close enough to the buildings to dump the water. Hell, they're at serious risk at the height they dropped it from. Plus, with the wind conditions there they said the plan had to be called off till they can get those fire trucks with pressured cannons. But even firefighters would be at serious risk from that distance.

I agree on not listening to Western media fully about the situation. Our media has a tendency to downplay major events like this. I won't totally rule them out though but CNN only takes up about %5 of the stuff I watch / read. The good thing though is based off our own studies on reactor 4 from elevated heat and radiation levels US officials came to the conclusion that the spent rods in the cooling pools were exposed. This was information the Japanese government nor Fukushima Daiichi neglected to mention. But in a interview with Anderson Cooper a represenative for Daiichi derailed and failed to respond to questions as to why they neglected to mention those rods may be exposed.

Mostly I read and watch shit from bbc and international companies dealing with the situation in association with these events, such as IAEA and NRC. Even the Japanese government and Fukushima Daiichi associates have a known reputation for not telling all of the facts to everyone, proven with prior incidences at the site. Considering all they've told us, they still say the situation is more than we know. So something is still not being mentioned.

The ARS is discrediting this photo. But similar pictures are circulating that show something similar. Just because the ARS didn't put the picture up only means one thing, they didn't put the picture up and someone shooped a logo at the bottom to make it more serious. Or they did release the photo and are now denying it. Either way, this is a possible worst case scenario in which all the plants go total meltdown and the toxic plume comes our direction via the pacific jet stream. Some scientists speculate this could happen, some speculate the radioactive particles would be too dense to make it across the entire pacific. I hope the latter of those two theories is correct. But still, we've never experienced more than 1 reactor exploding in our entire history of dealing with nuclear materials, this was Chernobyl. Only one reactor exploded and released radio active material from the rods into the atmosphere. We have no idea what 6 would do so this is only a speculation considering we've never dealt with this kind of thing before.

Gonna be some Fallout New Vegas

"Keep smoking weed….it kills cancer cells!!!! One Love"

I know is not time for this, but i want to know if this is true.

Also here are some radiation meter, i don't know if they can be trusted, but i will keep an eye on them.

I personally haven't heard of weed irradiating cancer cells. But weed does make your white blood cell count higher. That would be the only correlation I personally see with the two. But honestly you'd have to check more into that one.

I'll keep an eye on those two sites. And as for the last link and the site hes on is the latter of the two you posted. If you read the disclaimer for the site it says "Note that these are generally run by individuals, and not all readings may be accurate. Do not panic because you see a high reading. Someone could be getting invalid readings. Treat this for information purposes only, do not make safety decisions based upon it." All I think happened was there was a misreading or a human error. There was heightened levels of radiation in California but it wasn't anything more than what is still a very safe and very low amount.

btw updated the info on that fallout image.

Yeah, things got pretty fucked up. The problem is they need to control the tempature inside the reactor. But ofcourse people won´t get close because it is sure they will die.

This is just a start, things will get worser, sadly.
