Dude you are judging old school anime as if you watched them all. The older anime have better plot than today's anime. I don't know why you judge old school anime when today's anime is all about slice of life and moe. Seriously this is the first time I have to disagree with you when it comes to anime.
Also there might be better anime out there, but the fans have picked the anime above because they have special meaning to them. You cant compare older generations to newer generations. They tend to think differently. Its like asking your grandpa to go listen to some heavy metal.

I find it hard to believe that men in 30's watch Detective Conan.

Not long from now the grandpa's will be from the heavy metal era though
And this is Ovyda's way of thinking. Ohwell, atleast he can understand Dragon Ball. Gundam i haven't seen and Evashit is strangely very popular. Why i don't know, but it is.

This a thousand times, it's not about how good the anime is, it's about all the sentimental value and memories they carry with it. They were probably kids when they watched them, it has meaning to them. You can really tell from this that their number 1 anime is the one they grew up with.

Idk. As a 12yo kid it was fun, but now the whole thing seems a bit silly. I also doubt it is in your top 5.

I have watched that Evashit and it's just as name says it's shit lol, but I guess in their time nothing better could be find lol
Man, I simply dislike mecha overall and Gundam + Evashit both are mecha and done badly.
Real mecha's are Code Geass, TTGL and SnG.
