World Cyber Games

The World Cyber Games (WCG) is an international e-sports event (or "Cyber Games Festival") operated by Korean company World Cyber Games Inc. backed by Samsung and since 2006, Microsoft.

WCG is the largest gaming festival celebrated once a year. More than one million visitors come and visit every year. It unites gamers from all over the world to allow players to enjoy and respect the gaming environment. Each participating country will conduct preliminary rounds before sending the finest gamers to represent them in this major event. So basically, show up and compete. If you're good you'll move on past the preliminary rounds and represent your country in the actual tournament of the respected game you play.

I've been following WCG matches for over 6 years now. They're hosting the next one September 30-October 3, 2010 in Los Angeles California. The last WCG event hosted in America was in 2007. Other past locations have included Monza, Italy; Suntec City, Singapore and Cologne, Germany. The first 4 WCG events were held in South Korea.

The Total Grand Prize amount has yet to be decided. Last year it was $500,000. The year before was in the higher $400,000 area. I say if we get pro enough in CS by then we go hit this up in LA.

The Asian WCG leg is held in Singapore yea!

Microsoft has agreed to serve as the official sponsor through 2008 ( and still are to my understanding ), providing hardware, software, Xbox Live online service, peripheral equipment, and marketing support for all WCG events.

The deal also asserts that Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 will be the exclusive gaming platforms for the PC and console for the events, meaning that other console titles for Sony or Nintendo platforms will not figure in the competitions.
